Interdental brushes

Yes interdental brushes and flossing sticks can be recycled.

How?

  • Please place the interdental brushes and flossing sticks in a separate back to your toothbrushes.

Internet

The internet is a complex, and you may be surprised to learn that it accounts for 2% of all global emissions, equivalent to global aviation!

  • Google search - up to 7g Co2
  • E-mail - 4g Co2
  • Large e-mail attachment - up to 50g

Check out, "The Carbon Footprint of the Internet" an excellent Infographic explaining the complexities of this growing industry.

According to Cisco, a worldwide leader in IT, the internet will account for 3.5% of global carbon emissions by 2025.

Nicholas Carr, author of The Big Switch, Rewiring the World, has calculated that maintaining a character (known as an avatar) in the Second Life virtual reality game, requires 1,752 kilowatt hours of electricity per year. That is almost as much used by the average Brazilian.

Ironing Boards

Yes ironing boards can be reused and recycled.

REUSE

  • You can donate it to a charity shop.
  • You can sell it at a car boot sale or use a number of online platforms including Gumtree, Friday-Ad, Facebook selling pages and other online platforms. 
  • You can also give it away for free through Freegle.

Where?

  • Please take them to the Brighton Household Waste & Recycling site on Wilson Avenue or the Hove Household Waste & Recycling site on the Old Shoreham Road. See here for exact locations and opening times. For more details contact City Clean on 01273 292929.

 

How?

  • If they are made from metal include them in the scrap metal container.

  • If they are made from wood include them in the wood container
  • Some old ironing boards have an asbestos 'rest' and cannot be recycled. They can be taken to the above recycling sites, but must be wrapped in at least two layers of plastic.

    If you are planning on visiting a recycling site with asbestos make sure you bring two forms of identification to prove you live in the city, including one form of photo ID.
