Laptop Charger

REDUCE

It is possible to reduce the energy used by your laptop charger.

Britons waste £134 million a year by overcharging phones, MP3 players and laptops.

The most overcharged devices are laptops (43%). Overcharging your laptop can reduce the lifespan of the battery.

Electric tootbrushes, hand-held vacuum cleaners and cordless phones are also likely to zap unecessary juice.

Spending a few minutes unplugging ten common household gadgets when they are fully charged could save around £60 a year.

Lead

RECYCLE

Lead can be recycled.

There are local opportunities.

It can be taken to a scrap dealer.  The local scrap metal company that The Green Centre use is a family run company called Argyle Metals Ltd.  They can be found here: Argyle Hall, Campbell Road, Brighton, East Sussex BN1 4RA or contacted on 01273 680559.

Light Bulbs

RECYCLE

Light bulbs can be recycled. They must be unbroken.

There is a local scheme.

They are accepted at both recycling sites in Brighton and Hove.  See
Recycling Sites for location and opening times.

Please ask a member of staff when you arrive and they will place the bulbs in the correct container.  Should you break an energy saving light bulb it is recommended that, as a precaution, you ensure the room is well ventilated for at least 15 minutes.  Then sweep up the broken material using a damp cloth, place in a sealed plastic bag and take to either site for appropriate disposal.

They can also be returned to electrical shops from where they were purchased but there may be a charge for this. The lighting shop in Jubilee Street will take light bulbs including energy saving light bulbs (unbroken) for a fee of 50p per bulb.
