Ocean's 8 Brighton

Ocean's 8 Brighton is an environmental initiative created by Melanie Rees, Creative Director of the Green Centre.

The project plays on the Hollywood movie, Ocean's 8, a 2018 American heist comedy film directed by Gary Ross and written by Ross and Olivia Milch. The film is both a continuation and a spin-off from Steven Soderbergh's Ocean's trilogy and features an ensemble cast, including Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett.

Ocean's Brighton features an ensemble cast of woman leading environmental initiatives in Brighton. With a combined experience of 100+ years, these women have the skills and dedication to make a real difference to how we connect with our oceans.

Omushana

Omushana, Sunshine for Children is a UK registered charity set up by friends from both Uganda and the UK.

Their aim is to make a positive contribution to children's lives by improving their educational opportunities, welfare, confidence, and enjoyment. They achieve this by supporting and implementing locally run projects in the areas around the mountain gorilla reserves in Africa. Learn more.

One Planet Living

One Planet Living was created by Sue Riddlestone and Pooran Desai, two environmental activists and co-founders of Bioregional. It followed their involvement in the creation of the BedZED eco-village in South London in 2002. Since then they have been working with partners around the world to make One Planet Living a reality.

One Planet Living is a framework built on 10 simple principles which guide you towards a lifestyle where,  "people can enjoy happy, healthy lives within the natural limits of the planet, leaving space for wildlife and wilderness".

One Planet Living can be adopted by everyone; individuals, families, schools, businesses, corporations, cities, governments, countries, continents . . .

One Planet Living Principles

There are 10 One Planet Living Principles. Their names have changed several times since the concept was first created in 2003, e.g. Sustainable Transport changed to Travel and Transport. We have adopted the names we find the easiest to recall.

To help you remember the 10 principles we have taken into consideration that most adults can store between 5 and 9 items in their short-term memory so we have reduced the 10 principles into 3 categories.

The number denotes how many principles in that category and the label refers to the name of that category.

  • 1:ZERO means there is only 1 principle and the category is ZERO.
  • 4:AND means there are 4 principles and the category is AND.
  • 5:SUSTAINABLE means there are 5 principles and the category is SUSTAINABLE.

Organic

Organic means working with nature. It means higher levels of animal welfare, lower levels of pesticides, no manufactured herbicides or artificial fertilisers and more environmentally sustainable management of the land and natural environment, which means more wildlife. Learn more.
