  • Business Waste

Business Waste

Yes business waste can be recycled however you must use a registered waste carrier.

PLEASE NOTE
Business waste is any waste from commercial, trade or business activities. This includes any waste from domestic properties used for profit (for example landlords taking waste from a rented property) and waste that is being removed for payment.

  • If you use part of your home to run your business then any waste from that part is business waste.
  • Business waste also includes any waste that comes from:
    • construction
    • demolition
    • industry
    • agriculture

RECYCLE
Where?

There are many companies who deal with commercial waste throughout the UK. But not all of them recycle the waste. Whoever you choose to pay to remove your commercial waste it would be supportive to the environment if you choose a company which recycles as much as possible.

Local companies include:

  • Brighton Paper Round (01273 685628) who recycle all the commercial waste they collect.
  • Brighton Waste (01273 410777), who recycle cardboard, hardcore, metal and paper.
  • Green Acre Recycling (01273 600909), who recycle glass, hardcore, metal and wood.
  • Team Waste (01342 711941) who recycle cardboard and glass only.

Companies who offer their services throughout the UK include:

  • Biffa (01273 564064), who recycle paper and cardboard.
  • PHS (O870 241 7491), who try to recycle as much as they can but cannot guarantee this.
  • Sita (01342 716388), who recycle cardboard, glass, paper, plastic, tin and wood.
  • Veolia (02392 666999), who recycle a range of items.

How?

Since October 2007 there are new directives in relation to commercial waste [listed below], for further information about this see the Environment Agency webpages.

  • keep waste to a minimum by doing everything you reasonably can to prevent, reuse, recycle or recover waste
  • sort and store waste safely and securely
  • complete a waste transfer note for each load of waste that leaves your premises
  • check if your waste carrier is registered to dispose of waste
  • not allow the waste carrier to dispose of your waste illegally

Please note: You have extra responsibilities if you’re dealing with hazardeous waste
