Easter Eggs

REDUCE RECYCLE

Every year we create 3,000 tonnes of packaging waste at Easter! We can reduce this by purchasing eggs without packaging.

Co-op - no large eggs

Tesco - 142g Cadbury Egg (good size) with just foil, which can be recycled, only £2 and here's the bonus - Buy One Get One Free making them just a £1. They also have an assortment of other foil only items including chickens, bunnies and Easter chicks all priced at £3 or 2 for £5. Also Milky Bar Cow, foil only, for just £1.

Electrical Cable

Electrical cable can be recycled.

You can take all electrical cable to the Green Centre where it will be recycled with our scrap merchant or weigh it in with a scrap merchant yourself.

Electrical Items can be re-used and recycled.

Please take your working items to the Sussex YMCA Charity Shop at 66, Blatchington Road, Hove, BN3 3YN - 01273 776868. They are open from Monday to Saturday, from 9am to 5pm. They will be serviced, PAT tested and resold. Items are guaranteed for a short period.

If your unwanted items are not working they can be recycled at one of the community electrical recycling points in the city;

Energy

REDUCE

uSwitch is a free, impartial and independent price comparison service that helps consumers compare gas & electricity prices from all energy suppliers and switch to a better deal. Since 2006 uSwitch has been fully accredited by the Ofgem Confidence Code. uSwitch provides the ability for customers to compare energy suppliers online, over the phone, via the post and on a mobile App. So, saving money on energy bills couldn’t be simpler.

Energy Saving Lightbulbs

RECYCLE

Energy Saving Lightbulbs can be recycled.

There is a local scheme. 

They are accepted at both recycling sites in Brighton and Hove. See Recycling Sites for location and opening times. 

Please ask a member of staff when you arrive and they will place the bulbs in the correct container.  Should you break a bulb it is recommended that, as a precaution, you ensure the room is well ventilated for at least 15 minutes.  Then sweep up the broken material using a damp cloth, place in a sealed plastic bag and take to either site for appropriate disposal.

They can also be returned to electrical shops from where they were purchased but there may be a charge for this. These include;

Envelopes

RE-USE RECYCLE

Envelopes can be re-used and recycled.

You can re-use your envelopes by sticking a piece of paper or a self adhesive label over the previous address.

Enevelopes, including windowed enevelopes, can be included in your household recycling scheme. 

EPNS Cutlery and Ornaments

RE-USE RECYCLE

EPNS cutlery and ornaments can be reused and recycled.

You can take all EPNS cutlery and ornaments to The Green Centre and they will be resold to support the project or recycled through our recycling partner.
