Knitting machines can be re-used through Workaid.
Workaid tackles poverty in developing countries by supplying disadvantaged people with the tools they need to earn a living.
They collect unwanted items from all over the UK, repair them and send them to vocational training projects, mostly in East Africa. They have an efficient network of 100 volunteers who co-ordinate tools collections.
Ideally the donated machine should have instruction books and the basic parts as supplied by the manufacturers. Due to the lack of spare parts Workaid can't accept machines manufactured before 1960.
So if you have a knitting machine to donate, please phone 01494 775220 or email admin@workaid.org and you will be put in touch with your nearest area organiser.
Alternatively you can bring them to the Green Centre and we will add them to our collection which is heading for Workaid.
